Beauty ideals vary a great deal from nation to nation. As a matter of fact, sporting a long hair is a symbol of strength which has been followed by notable personalities around the world for centuries! Hair style renders a pleasing appearance for a man, especially for a youth. The plight of a person because of hair – loss can be understood by his slipping away from the company of friends or in the gathering of opposite sex. Of late, hair – loss has become a global phenomena but it is no longer an irremedial problem, thanks to the advancement of modern technology i.e hair transplantation.

The most common form of hair loss is so called androgenetic alopecia and the growth is steady from day one after hair transplantation which can be washed, blow dried, and dyed normally.

For patients who require density to existing transplants or who are dissatisfied with the transplanted hairline we cater to their needs. Some patients may like to correct sparse eyebrows or scars on the scalp. All these individuals of both the sexes are good candidates for the procedure.

Pre-operative instructions for hair restoration patients :
Hair transplantation is a delicate process. For better results, the patients are required to adhere to the following instructions in good spirit.
Before your procedure :
1. For 10 days prior to procedure, avoid taking aspirin or vitamin E, gingobiloba or any multivitamins as they contain vitamin E. Since many medication contain aspirin, go through the medication labels carefully. If it is necessary, you may take paracetamol – crocin.
2. For 3 days prior to procedure, avoid taking anti – inflammatories (e.g ibuprofen), drinking alcohol and getting sun burn.
3. For 3 days prior to procedure, stop using minoxidil.
4.Conveyance to the residence can be arranged by the patients themselves as they will be under the influence of sedation. What type of sedation to be given can be formally discussed with Dr. Karthik.
5. If the patient is from a remote place, he/she should arrange his/her staying in a hotel and conveyance to and from the hospital.
6. If you colour your hair, make it sure that it gets coloured 3 weeks or more prior to your procedure. Only after 3 weeks of
7. To help cover the donor site sutures, let the hair in the back of your head grow to at least one inch (2.34 cms) in length. The hair on the rest of your head can be of any length.
8. For best healing, please refrain from smoking for a week prior to and one week after the procedure.
Post-Operative instructions for hair transplant patients :
For better results after hair transplantation,
1.Sleep with your head elevated on several pillows or in a recliner chair to prevent swelling. A towel can be placed under your head on the first night after transplantation.
2.Avoid strenuous physical activities for the first two days to prevent loss of grafts or increased swelling. Your usual practices like weight lifting, morning exercises can be resumed after 2 weeks. Swimming can be resumed after 4 weeks.
3.Wearing a cap provides adequate protection.
Caring for and cleaning the scalp :
4.Your scalp will be cleaned before leaving the office on the day of your procedure. Often there is some slight bleeding from several graft sites during the first 24 hours. Simply apply light pressure with a clean cloth or gauze for 10 minutes.
5.The patient should visit the clinic on the third day after procedure to rule out any infection in the sutured area. and cleaning instruction :
It has to be done on the 4th day as follows:
6.Wet your head in the shower with cool to warm water, pouring it over the scalp (top, sides and back) using a bowl.
7.Using a mild shampoo, lather it in your hands, and gently pat it onto the graft areas, while lightly rubbing it into the other parts of the scalp, including the sides and back of the scalp. Be sure to wash well the sutured areas.
8.Gently rinse off the shampoo, and then pat dry.
9.Combing (which should be performed gently), is permitted on the third day.
10.Continue this routine daily for the first 5 days. After this, you may begin to rub lightly the graft area to help remove crusts, and shower normally.
11.Any remaining crusts after 10 days will fall of on its own.
12.Sutures will be removed two weeks after surgery.
13.Numbness at the graft sites and above the suture line is common and normal. It will take several weeks to resolve, but rarely several months for some cases.
14.The transplanted hairs often will fall out as the crusts fall off after 5 days.
15.The patients need not be scared, for these are only the hair shafts, while the hair follicles remain in the scalp. We can notice in 2½ to 3 months, the new hair shafts begin to grow in a natural fashion and will continue to grow at the normal rate of ½ an inch to 1 inch a month. Rarely it can take 6 to 9 months for all the hairs to grow in.
16.To accelerate the growth of the new hairs I recommend all male patients can apply 5% minoxidil twice a day starting from the tenth day after the procedure. Female patients should use 2% minoxidil. If the minoxidil cause redness of the scalp, you can stop using it for one week then resume it once in alternate days. Once the hairs start growing in, on the 3rd month, the minoxidil can be stopped, and the transplanted hairs will continue to grow. The patient who is sensitive to minoxidil (chest palpitations, light – headedness, scalp itching) should stop it applying.
17.Be patient for the hairs to grow in. As they emerge from the scalp, occasionally there will be a few acne – like pimples. If this happens, contact us.
18.You may have your hair cut three weeks after surgery. Hair colouring is permitted after 3 weeks of your procedure.
